A Béarra Man Speaking from the Literary Fringe
Abstract
This article provides a brief biography of Pádraig Ó Laoghaire (1870–1896), a Gaelic scholar from the Béarra peninsula. A selection of some of his extant work is also discussed, including the book for which he is best known, Sgeuluidheacht Chúige Mumhan. (1.), which appeared in 1895. A more substantial study of the man and his work will appear in Meidhbhín Ní Úrdail, Pádraig Ó Laoghaire (1870–1896): an Irish Scholar from the Béarra Peninsula, which Beara Historical Society will publish soon.
